How do you decide where to eat with a group of friends?

The reliable way is to make everyone choose from the same short list at the same time, rather than trading suggestions in a group chat. Fork'In does this with Squad Picks: one person drops a pin, and everyone swipes through an identical deck of 5 to 20 nearby restaurants on their own phone. You match on the places everyone swiped right on. Each person gets one veto, ties go to a run-off vote, and a dead heat ends in a coin flip everyone watches land at once.

What is Fork'In?

Fork'In is a free iPhone app that maps the restaurants your friends have eaten at, with their reviews attached. Reviews score Food, Price and Service separately instead of giving one overall star rating. It also includes group tools for choosing a restaurant and agreeing on a time. It has no advertising and no sponsored restaurants.

How is Fork'In different from Yelp or Google Maps?

Yelp and Google Maps average the opinions of everyone who visited, which is good for avoiding bad restaurants and poor at finding ones you'll love. Fork'In shows reviews from friends you have added, so recommendations come from people whose taste you already know. Fork'In also has no advertising and no paid placement, so restaurants cannot buy a higher position.

How is Fork'In different from Beli?

Beli ranks restaurants against each other in a personal ordered list, answering which one you preferred. Fork'In scores each visit on three separate axes — Food, Price and Service — answering what specifically was good or bad. Fork'In also focuses on group decisions, with tools for a group to swipe a shared deck of restaurants and vote on a meeting time.

Is Fork'In free?

Yes. Fork'In is free to download and use, with no subscription and no in-app purchases. It shows no advertising and takes no payment from restaurants for placement or ranking.

Is Fork'In available on Android?

Not yet. Fork'In is currently an iPhone app requiring iOS 15.1 or later.

Can my friends see my location on Fork'In?

No. Your live location is never shared with other users. Your device location is used only on your own phone, to centre the map and search for nearby restaurants. Check-ins show a restaurant you actively chose to post about, not a record of where you have been.

Does Fork'In upload my contacts?

No. If you choose to find friends from contacts, the email addresses and phone numbers are converted into anonymous fingerprints on your device and only those fingerprints are compared. Your contacts, their names and their raw details are never uploaded or stored.

How do you plan a dinner with friends in Fork'In?

Open a restaurant and choose Schedule with friends. Pick who is coming and propose up to four possible times. Everyone marks which of those times work for them, and can pick more than one. Once everybody has voted the host locks a time in, and everyone gets a reminder an hour before. Nothing is reserved with the restaurant — this is the group agreeing with each other.

Does Fork'In book restaurant reservations?

No. Fork'In does not take bookings. For restaurants where reservations are normal, a Reserve a table button links out to OpenTable. The separate Schedule with friends feature is for agreeing a time within your group, not with the restaurant.

How old do you have to be to use Fork'In?

You must be at least 13. Date of birth is required at signup and is checked before an account is created. It is stored privately and never shown on your profile.

Which cities does Fork'In work in?

Restaurant data covers anywhere with mapped restaurants, so the search works broadly. The app is most useful where your own friends are active, since the value comes from their reviews rather than from coverage.
